About the Floyd County Animal Rescue League
The Floyd County Animal Rescue League (FCARL) is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven animal welfare organization serving Floyd County, Indiana. Founded in 1977 by five local animal advocates, FCARL has spent nearly five decades improving the lives of companion animals through education, financial assistance, volunteerism, and community partnerships.
Our Mission
Educate our community in the humane treatment of animals and responsible and enjoyable pet ownership.
Reduce the number of unwanted animals in Floyd County, Indiana.
Assist and support the New Albany Animal Shelter and the Tri-County Animal Shelter.
What FCARL Does
FCARL offers a variety of programs designed to improve animal welfare throughout the community, including:
- Spay and Neuter Assistance – Helping Floyd County residents reduce pet overpopulation through affordable spay and neuter vouchers.
- Medical Assistance – Providing veterinary care vouchers for pets requiring urgent medical treatment.
- Free Microchip Clinics – Hosting community microchipping events throughout the year, with free microchipping available year-round for veterans' companion animals.
- Shelter Support – Supplying financial assistance, volunteers, vaccinations, medications, testing supplies, foster care assistance, adoption support, and rescue coordination.
- Humane Education – Promoting responsible pet ownership through outreach and educational programs.
Our Community Impact
Since its founding in 1977, FCARL has made a lasting impact on animal welfare in Southern Indiana by:
- Helping thousands of pets receive affordable veterinary care.
- Reducing unwanted litters through spay and neuter programs.
- Raising more than one-third of the funding needed to build the New Albany Animal Shelter, which opened in 2000.
- Contributing countless volunteer hours and ongoing financial support to local shelter operations.
- Improving adoption opportunities and quality of life for companion animals throughout Floyd County.
Volunteer-Powered Organization
FCARL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that relies heavily on volunteers, donations, sponsorships, and fundraising events. Signature events such as the Pet Lovers Party help fund the organization's programs and allow FCARL to continue providing essential services to pets and their families.
